CWRU Motorsports, the university’s Baja SAE team, had a record-breaking performance at the Arizona Baja SAE competition in May, earning first place in Design Presentation and first in the 4-hour-long Endurance race categories both first-time wins for the team. The team placed fourth overall out of more than 80 teams in a highly competitive field. Despite the challenge of competing in drastically hotter conditions than they’re used to in Cleveland, the team adapted quickly and pushed through to the finish.
Baja SAE invites engineering students to design and build durable off-road vehicles capable of enduring the harsh conditions of rugged terrain. Each team's primary goal is to develop a prototype of a robust, all-weather, single-seat, off-road recreational vehicle aimed at the casual weekend off-road enthusiast. Throughout the competition, teams collaborate in realistic scenarios to identify and resolve technical challenges related to design, testing, manufacturing, and business considerations. This experience not only tests their engineering skills but also prepares them for real-world problem-solving and teamwork.
