At Case School of Engineering, there’s a student organization to suit nearly any interest. From national chapters to student-created groups, over 30 organizations are available to help you meet new people, receive coaching and mentoring, network, build your resume and just have fun.

Competitive Groups

Baja Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

Baja SAE is an international collegiate competition series hosted by the SAE. Engineering students from around the world design and build lightweight off-road cars from the ground up. Teams then compete against other colleges in a number of events, which examine the performance, durability, marketing, cost and design of the cars. Case Western Reserve boasts an award-winning Baja team.

Case Aeronautics Team

Case Aeronautics Team primarily designs, builds and flies a large-scale custom RC aircraft for an annual competition each year hosted by Cessna and Raytheon. The required task varies each year, ranging from aerobatic maneuvers to carrying and dropping payloads. They also explore autonomous flight and quad-copters.

Case Rocket Team

The members of the Case Rocket Team participate in high-power rocketry competitions and other aerospace-related events in the area and throughout the nation, including the annual Battle of the Rockets (BotR) competition.

CWRUbotix: Robotics Club

Case Western Reserve University's undergraduate student robotics club participates in NASA's Annual Robotics Mining Competition and the National Robotics Challenge.

Steel Bridge Team

The CWRU Steel Bridge Team designs, fabricates, and builds a 20-foot steel bridge which is tested in a regional competition. Members learn skills such as bridge design, fabrication skills (welding, grinding, drilling, etc.) and building efficiency. You do not need to be studying similar fields or have previous experience!

Chapters of National Organizations

American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Chapter

This undergraduate student organization is the link between the local and national AIChE chapters for chemical engineers. With events throughout the year, declared chemical engineering majors can connect with peers, faculty and industry professionals to further their career goals.

Our student chapter of the ASCE has a mission to provide essential value to students as they pursue their engineering education and develop leadership skills. Chapter members advocate for lifelong learning and promote the profession to other engineering students at Case Western Reserve University.

CWRU's student chapter of the ASME aims to improve the technical and personal skills of members and provide them with the resources to succeed beyond Case Western Reserve University.

Design for America (DFA) Chapter

Case Western Reserve’s Design for America (DFA) chapter is part of an award-winning nationwide network of interdisciplinary student teams and community members using design to create local and social impact. Alongside participants from Cleveland Institute of Art, DFA students use the design process to create and implement solutions to real-world problems in the Cleveland community.

Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at CWRU (oSTEM@CWRU) is part of a national organization dedicated to the empowerment of LGBTQIA+ individuals in STEM fields. The university’s chapter aims to provide personal, academic, and professional mentorship to individuals in the LGBTQIA+ CWRU STEM community.

The Society of Women Engineers chapter is an educational and service-oriented professional organization that promotes the development of women in STEM fields at the collegiate and professional levels. Tau Beta Pi – The Engineering Honor Society Chapter

Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, with a mission to recognize those who have conferred honor upon their alma mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering. The Case Western Reserve chapter hosts peer tutoring sessions, professional development workshops and service events.

Theta Tau, Delta Chapter

Theta Tau is the only professional engineering fraternity at Case Western Reserve. The three pillars of this organization are brotherhood, service, and professionalism. Members include around 40 students from all different disciplines at Case School or Engineering who help each other navigate through their undergraduate degrees and enter the workforce.

Association for Computing Machinery 

This computer science interest group puts on a variety of events including technical talks, study sessions, hackathons and programming competitions to help you build connections with peers who are interested in problem-solving, engineering, and computer science

Association for Computing Machinery for Women 

This club seeks to promote gender equity in computer science, data science and other technical fields while developing a community for women that promotes their success and collaborative opportunities. They hold networking and professional events for female and non-binary students in the field who are interested in peer mentoring.

Case Amateur Radio Club, W8EDU

W8EDU is the amateur ham radio club of Case Western Reserve University. Unlike the university's WRUW radio station, which broadcasts radio for public listening, ham radio operators transmit on the radio to communicate with one another. Ham radio operators make contacts around the world, and include many diverse hobby groups.

Case Engineers Council

As the group behind Case School of Engineering’s annual Engineers Week, the Case Engineers Council connects engineering departments, university organizations and students who are passionate about engineering. Members promote the collaboration of students, faculty and corporate relations through discussions, lectures, community outreach and more.

CWRU MedWish

CWRU MedWish, in partnership with MedWish International—a Cleveland-based organization—helps sort, test and repair used medical equipment that is being sent for use in developing countries. CWRU MedWish provides a great opportunity for hands-on experience with medical equipment and is open to anyone who wants to join.

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is a student group dedicated to helping close the gender gap in the technology field by exposing high school students to opportunities within the tech industry with free weekly sessions. At CWRU, around 30 facilitators hold two weekly sessions to foster a supportive community for underrepresented genders pursuing the tech field.

Global Health Design Collaboration (GHDC)

The GHDC is a multi-level interdisciplinary organization that aims to integrate social science and engineering disciplines in the development of relevant, sustainable solutions to health concerns in Uganda. Specifically, GHDC seeks to use the theoretical perspectives and methodologies of sociocultural anthropology to drive culturally appropriate and sustainable solutions.

The Humanitarian Design Corps works in conjunction with Engineers Without Borders at CWRU to improve the well-being of disadvantaged populations through engineering.

Medical Technology Group

The Medical Technology Group promotes design and entrepreneurship education through collaborations between undergraduate students and practicing clinicians in the pursuit of a comprehensive approach to medical technology development that meets a relevant clinical need. The group aims to generate solutions to medical problems, not only developing prototypes to meet the needs of patients and clinicians, but assessing the business case and ultimate market viability of our proposed solutions.

Phi Sigma Rho is a social sorority for women in engineering and engineering technology that helps members develop the highest standard of personal integrity, strive for academic excellence, and build friendships that will last a lifetime. The sisterhood focuses on providing assistance and encouragement to all sisters as they accomplish their academic and career goals.

Precious Plastics @ CWRU

The purpose of Precious Plastic @CWRU is to provide a space for students interested in upcycling materials to interact with each other and get hands-on involvement in upcycling plastics. This is achieved through hands-on involvement in the building of plastic processing machines, establishing plastic collection zones on campus, and events tailored to plastic upcycling.

WISER strives to promote the inclusion and success of all women pursuing STEM-related careers at Case Western Reserve University through leadership, mentorship and outreach.
