Biomedical Engineering

Jointly housed in the Case School of Engineering and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, the Department of Biomedical Engineering was founded in 1968 as one of the first biomedical engineering programs in the world. Engaged in research collaborations and working in cross-disciplinary centers, our faculty are renowned as global thought leaders in neural engineering, biomedical imaging and computing, biomaterials, and immunoengineering.

In the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, faculty lead the study of the synthesis, structure, processing, properties and use of polymers. The department is a polymer powerhouse—the nation’s first stand-alone polymer department and the first in the country to offer an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science program in the field.
