Co-Op Program

The Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program at Case School of Engineering is an academic initiative that provides engineering and computer science students at Case Western Reserve University with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on, paid work experience.

With more than 30% of engineering and computer science students taking part, there’s a reason the Co-op Program is so popular: most participating companies use our program as a pipeline for future employment!

How It Works

The Co-op Program is a full-time, two-semester, zero-credit, paid work experience. When you choose to take part, you’ll take time off from classes to focus your attention on your co-op placement. Course enrollment is through the Student Information System, and is available after a student completes their online forms with the Co-op Office.

Program Timing

Typical work terms are in the spring and summer semesters, or in summer and fall. Third- and fourth-year students and graduate students are eligible to participate, although you are encouraged to start the job search process one year prior to your co-op. Second-years are eligible to participate with approval from the co-op director.

We offer informational workshops toward the beginning of each fall and spring semester, which are listed in Handshake events. If you missed an information session, please schedule a meeting with us by emailing coopinfo@case.edu; our staff will walk you through the co-op process from beginning to end!

Accepting An Offer

Co-op orientation meetings are required for all first-time co-op students, which can be scheduled by emailing coopinfo@case.edu. Second- and third-time co-op students do not need to attend a second orientation meeting, but are still required to complete a co-op experience form with our office prior to course enrollment.

Saloni Baral

“I completed an entire year of co-op. It was really enriching just to learn about what the industry is all about, and what a day in the life of an engineer would look like. I felt like I provided a real impact on the team.”

Saloni B., biomedical engineering major, president of the Society of Women Engineers
