Ensuring Your Student's Health and Safety While Abroad

Making sure your student is healthy and safe while abroad is one of our main priorities. We take every precaution to educate your student about health and safety concerns by providing information about prevention and smart traveling.

At the same time, we provide your student with resources on our Health and Safety section and in our pre-departure orientation that is required of every student.

Every student has supplemental health insurance provided at no cost by Case Western Reserve University. This insurance is intended to be used in addition to a regular policy and provides students with coverage specifically designed for overseas travel. We encourage students to visit the Centers for Disease Control to get the latest information about vaccinations.

We also direct students to the United States Department of State travel website for country-specific information about safety and health concerns, and we encourage students to register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) so the U.S. embassy can assist them in the event of an emergency.

Finally, we give the students instructions on what to do in the event of an emergency and provide students with an emergency card to fill out with important phone numbers to contact should something happen.

We encourage you to contact our office if you have any concerns about the safety or health of your student before or during their study abroad experience.

You can contact the Director of Education Abroad, Autumn Beechler Stebing, directly at axb727@case.edu or 216.368.2517 between 8:30 am and 5 pm ET, Monday through Friday.

For after-hour emergencies, contact university police at 216.368.3333, and the communications officers will immediately get in touch with someone from the Office of Education Abroad to respond.
