About

The Department of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is committed to training the next generation of dermatologists to provide superior patient care.

Since launching our curriculum in 1956, we’ve worked hard to lead in the field—our department welcomed Dr. Beno Michel as chair in 1968, ranked among the top 10 dermatology programs in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for the first time in 1995—and every year since, and established our dermatology nurse practitioner training program in 2001. Along the way, our faculty have made clinical breakthroughs that remain in use today, including creating vehicles for the injection of topical steroids and pioneering skin tissue preservation for immunology.

Today, our heavy research focus continues, including through our NIH Skin Diseases Research Center, one of the longest running of the six currently awarded. We offer a broad range of clinical services, research, and teaching activities to deliver the highest quality health care across the dermatological field.
