Graduate Student Training

Pre-doctoral candidates enrolled in accredited programs will also be eligible. The predocotoral candidates will be eligible no earlier than the second year of the program. Pre-doctoral trainees can follow several tracks to arrive within the Department of Dermatology as graduate candidates. Candidates may enter from within the medical scientist training program (MSTP), a training program that grants the dual MD, PhD degree through the medical school. Additionally, graduate candidates may enter from within the Biomedical Scientist Training Program (BSTP), a training program within the medical school that grants either MS or PhD degrees. Candidates may also be associated with advisors in the Biological Sciences Department, in which case they would enter through the School of Graduate Studies. Finally, some candidates may enter through the direct-admission route in the Department of Pathology, or through other university departments. The office of Director of Graduate Education in the School of Medicine was established in part to coordinate graduate student advocacy and to help in the recruiting efforts for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
