The mission of the Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers is to provide superior image analysis and trial development support for clinical trials and studies examining the effects of drugs, devices, and diseases on the cornea and the retina.
The Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers at University Hospitals Eye Institute and Case Western Reserve University are comprised of two of the leading ophthalmic image analysis centers:
Established at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University, the two eye image reading centers have extensive experience with multicenter, national and international, federal and corporate-sponsored clinical trials. Our standardized protocols ensure rapid and consistent analyses while our technical expertise results in refined acquisition, training and analysis techniques.
This technical expertise is enhanced by significant involvement from our medical director in study design to ensure the highest quality and limit inconsistencies.
The Eye Image Analysis Reading Centers are governed by the University Hospitals Institutional Review Board, which is fully accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs. Our staff follows the regulations set forth by Good Clinical Practices, the International Conference on Harmonization, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Food and Drug Administration.
Our work with nationally recognized principal investigators, contract research organizations, federal agencies and large pharmaceuticals allows us to tailor our analyses toward improved anatomic and body composition data while maintaining scientific integrity.
We provide image analysis for a variety of ophthalmic diseases, including Fuchs' dystrophy, diabetic macular edema, neovascular and non-neovascular macular degeneration, vitreoretinal interface disorders, neuro-ophthalmological diseases, uveitis and glaucoma. We also evaluate corneal endothelial safety and toxicity related to devices in the anterior chamber, corneal and intraocular surgery and viscoelastics, and retinal safety related to intravitreal medications.
Additionally, the centers grade ocular images for safety studies of drugs used in nonophthalmological studies.
We offer a full array of grading and analysis services for both the cornea and retina, including corneal endothelial cell density, coefficient of variation, percent of hexagonal cells, epithelial staining analysis, analysis of confocal images of the epithelium and stroma, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography.
