CNET: David Gerdes, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said that expanding the definition of a planet to include Pluto would also sweep up other celestial bodies, including asteroids like Ceres, Pallas and Vesta. “Today, we know of over a million asteroids — so many that we call that region the ‘asteroid belt’ — and nobody considers them planets," Gerdes said.
