3 things to do in Cleveland in January

Community Engagement | January 06, 2026 | Story by: Katie Laux

Students, faculty and staff are returning to campus after time apart with renewed energy. The first day of classes of the spring semester is less than a week away, meaning their focus will be on their studies and work. But when downtime is needed this month, events throughout Cleveland can do the trick.

We have suggestions for how they can embrace Cleveland in the new year. Find more inspiration on the Destination Cleveland website.

SoftLaunch 2026

Jan. 15–17

Explore theater beyond the bounds of a stage at Cleveland Public Theatre’s SoftLaunch, a three-day festival in Gordon Square.

Intended as a reinvention of theater, this immersive experience allows guests to engage in experimental art forms, including installation art, participatory performances, improvised music and more. Some works are fully produced, while others are works-in-progress, giving audience members the opportunity to take part in the creative process.

Tickets are available at varying price points, with limited choose-what-you-pay general admission available day-of.

Pop punk benefit concert

Jan. 16

Attend a pop punk concert for a good cause at the Grog Shop Friday, Jan. 16. The concert will feature Youth Pallet, Molly OMalley, Plum Shed and Homedays and proceeds will benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

Deepening the concert’s local roots, there will be raffles from Cleveland businesses.

Tickets cost $16 in advance or $20 at the door. This is an all-ages concert, however there will be a $3 extra charge at the doors for those under age 21.

Cleveland Charge against Motor City Cruise

Jan. 31

See Cleveland’s NBA G League team, the Charge, in action against the Motor City Cruise at the historic Cleveland Public Hall Saturday, Jan. 31. Tickets start at $14.

The game’s “British Invasion” promotions harken the hall’s history as a one-time venue for a Beatles concert. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative poster. There also will be a post-game concert featuring Northeast Ohio’s premiere Beatles cover band, Revolution Pie.
