Apply for winter break study abroad programs on social development in India and Ecuador by Sept. 1

Students can participate in one of two winter break study abroad programs focused on social development: one trip to Ecuador and the other to India. Both will be run by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School for Applied Social Sciences. The three-credit study abroad programs are open to all students and fulfill the global and cultural diversity or social science requirement. Applications for both programs are due Sept. 1. Ecuador: Health, Human and Social Development in Rural Ecuador

Students will travel through Quito, the Amazon Basin and the rural highlands of Ecuador while investigating the impact of social, political and economic development on communities. The program also will give insight into the lives of Ecuadorians through homestay experiences with an urban Quito family and an indigenous Quichua family. This trip will take place from Dec. 27 to Jan. 10.

India: Global Health and Social Development in India

In a rapidly developing India, how does the country address the multiple aspects of social welfare, public health and socioeconomic challenges? Through this program, with a focus on southern India, students will discover how policy challenges are approached through preventative health care, poverty alleviation, non-formal education and the IT sector in Bangalore.
