Artsci's Scott Simpson offers warning on study related to Ardipithecus ramidus
New study strengthens idea that humans evolved from knuckle-walking ancestors
Science Magazine: Scott Simpson, professor at the School of Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences, cautioned that a recent study omitted Ardipithecus ramidus, a key early hominin whose preserved hand showed no clear evidence of knuckle-walking. Simpson said similarities between human and African ape wrists may simply reflect close evolutionary relationships—not necessarily proof humans evolved from knuckle-walking ancestors.
