Author Thrity Umrigar explores prejudice and polarization in new novel 'Missing Sam'
Thrity Umrigar, Distinguished University Professor, said her novel Missing Sam was inspired by how empty suburban streets can feel, imagining a woman disappearing on a run unnoticed. She said the story tests a marriage and “the strengths of our democracy,” exploring online rumor, prejudice toward immigrants and Muslims and the limits of liberal allyship.
