Beyond books: 5 ways to maximize your finals experience with Kelvin Smith Library

April 20, 2026 | Story by: Editorial Staff

The final stretch of spring semester is upon us, bringing with it the completion of classes, theses and research projects. Kelvin Smith Library is here to help you do your best, and these 5 library tips and resources will help ensure a successful end to this semester at Case Western Reserve University.

1. Stay as long as you’d like with extended hours

From noon on Sunday, April 26, through Wednesday, May 6, Kelvin Smith Library will be open 24/7 with your CWRU ID. Take advantage of the longer hours to lock in all night long, if that’s your style. Pro tip: if you set up somewhere on the first or lower levels, you won’t have to move at midnight when the upper floors close. Learn more about the library’s finals schedule.

2. Reserve a study spot with Spartan Reservation System

To guarantee a space to work during this busy time at the library, save your spot up to six weeks ahead of time online with the Spartan Reservation System. Select the “Kelvin Smith Library (KSL) Space Requests” option to book individual study rooms and collaboration spaces for up to eight people.

3. ASKSL for help

Your designated librarian wants to support you throughout your finals! The library has a 24-hour chat for questions at any time of day (with human librarians, not a chatbot), as well as a phone number you can text (216.220.8261) and an email you can contact (asksl@case.edu). Whether it be finding a scholarly source or grappling with copyright, our librarians and staff are available to help guide you through and connect you to what you need to succeed.

4. Unwind in the Zen Zone

While you stretch your legs or enjoy the breaks between study timers, swing by the Zen Zone on the first floor near Cramelot Cafe for a mental health break. Stocked with fidget toys and crafts such as coloring, origami and more, take a moment for yourself to be creative before returning to your work refreshed.

5. Save the date for the library’s Finals Wellness Break with University Health and Counseling Services

With all the hard work you’re about to put in, you deserve a break, a treat and a chair massage. University Health and Counseling Services teams up with the library every semester for an elevated study break, featuring chair massages, lunch, coloring and crafts, and a make-your-own-tea bar. This semester’s event takes place Tuesday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your study buddy or drop in for a while to ensure your wellbeing and success. RSVP on CampusGroups for a reminder.

Equipped with these five hacks, you are well on your way to an effectively maximized finals season. For additional tips and any questions you might have, email asksl@case.edu. Best of luck, Spartans!
