360 million years ago, Cleveland was home to a giant predatory fish unlike anything alive today

IFL Science: Russell Engelman, graduate student and research assistant in biology at the College of Arts and Sciences, weighed in on his recent discovery about Dunkleosteus, Cleveland's prehistoric sea monster. “These discoveries highlight that arthrodires cannot be thought of as primitive, homogenous animals, but instead a highly diverse group of fishes that flourished and occupied many different ecological roles during their history,” he said.
