Campus tree maintenance and removal to begin Thursday

From Dec. 18 through Jan. 12, arborists working for Case Western Reserve University’s Campus Planning and Facilities Management office will perform maintenance pruning of healthy trees and remove dead and dying ones from several areas across campus.

The majority of tree removals will occur within the South Residential Village but a few trees in more central parts of campus will also be removed, including a large northern red oak in front of Nord Hall and a honeylocust near the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.

Board-certified master arborists have recommended that these trees be removed as their current condition poses a threat to the safety of the campus community. In the spring, young, species-appropriate trees will be planted to replace the prominent dead and dying ones that have been removed.
