Chemical engineering PhD student selected for Department of Energy research award
William Lvovich, a third-year PhD student in chemical engineering at Case Western Reserve University, has been selected for the U.S. Department of Energy's 2026 Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) program.
Lvovich, who specializes in electrochemical engineering, previously conducted his research through C-Steel, a Department of Energy center led by Argonne National Laboratory. He also published two research papers with the assistance of Rohan Akolkar, the Milton and Tamar Maltz Professor of Energy Innovation at Case School of Engineering and partner of Argonne National Lab researchers—a collaboration that helped make Lvovich’s SCGSR experience possible.
As a SCGSR recipient, Lvovich will conduct research through the Office of Science's Basic Energy Sciences program in Materials Chemistry with laboratory principal investigator Justin Connell.
