Learn about updated independent contractor (IC) engagement procedures

Starting Dec. 15, Case Western Reserve will implement updated independent contractor (IC) engagement procedures. These revisions introduce a more consistent, transparent and compliant process for engaging consultants, guest speakers, presenters and other external service providers across the university.

Under the new framework, all campus units will follow a unified intake and approval process that includes classification review by the Department of Human Resources and contractual and purchasing oversight from Procurement and Distribution Services. The updated process ensures that each independent contractor engagement is supported by the appropriate agreements, clearly defined deliverables and accurate reporting.

Faculty, staff and administrators are encouraged to review the new guidance in advance of the Dec. 15 transition to support planning for upcoming events, projects and external engagements.

Review resources to prepare for these changes.
