New approach targets social skills to help schizophrenia patients heal
U.S. News & World Report: Anju Kotwani, lead author and a doctoral student at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, and Jessica Wojtalik, assistant professor at the Mandel School, discussed their study that found improving schizophrenia patients’ ability to interpret tone, body language and sarcasm—skills essential for navigating everyday interactions—could help them function better in everyday life. “It’s how you figure out what someone really means when they say ‘fine’ in a certain tone or how you know when someone is being sarcastic versus serious,” said Kotwani.
