WEWS: Jeffrey Janata, professor in the Department of Psychiatry at CWRU School of Medicine, said people can better avoid scams by suspending belief and asking, “Could this story be false?” and “Why me?” He said scammers exploit people who don’t question claims, making them more vulnerable to emotional manipulation.
