Reduce your energy consumption for the annual CWRU Unplugged Energy Contest
It’s time for residential halls to compete in the annual CWRU Unplugged Energy Contest. This year, the contest will run for four weeks, from Oct. 22 to Nov. 19. Students living in Case Western Reserve University residence halls and some Greek houses with university meters can compete to reduce their electricity usage over the course of the four weeks. If you’re an off-campus Greek House or commuter student, you can still participate by emailing sustainability@case.edu.
Tips to win:
- Sign the sustainability pledge.
- Have a pledge-signing party with your RA.
- Monitor your building’s live energy consumption and take action.
- Get your friends and suitemates to reduce your building’s electricity use by turning off the lights, taking the stairs, unplugging devices, washing clothes in cold water and air drying clothes when possible.
- Off-campus students can install LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs, think about smart power strips, and turn down your thermostat.
- Find more home energy tips from the Office of Energy & Sustainability.
Points will be awarded for:
- Reducing the amount of electricity used in your residence hall;
- Taking the Sustainability Pledge; and
- Attending the two events over the course of the contest.
The winning building will receive prizes and a pizza party. Individuals are also automatically entered to win raffle prizes by signing the pledge.
The Office of Energy and Sustainability and the Student Sustainability Ambassadors—with support from the Residence Hall Association, Office of Residence Life, Office of Greek Life and CWRU Residence Life and Housing—organized this challenge.
