University Farm to offer “Basics of Oyster Mushroom Production” course several times in January, February

The University Farm administration will offer its “Basics of Oyster Mushroom Production” course in January and February 2019. Farm Food Program staff member Matt Burtonshaw manages the daily operations of the farm's oyster mushroom production and will teach the course. In this hands-on class, participants will learn about mushrooms':

• Economics,
• Growing requirements,
• Equipment needed,
• Sterilization,
• Potential problems and
• Packaging and harvesting.

Participants will have the opportunity to make a miniature mushroom bag to take home. The three-hour course will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on the following Fridays:

• Jan. 11
• Jan. 25
• Feb. 8
• Feb. 22

The course fee is $50. Each class will be limited to 12 participants (five minimum confirmed registrations are needed to offer class). Participants must be at least 18 years old to register for the course. Register and pay course fee through CampusGroups. Payment must be made at time of registration.
