STORY BY: EDITORIAL STAFF
Ryan Bennett, a former chef and the farm food program coordinator at the Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms, will lead several foraging classes as a part of the farm’s continuing education program. The classes will be offered three consecutive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the farm. Originally set to begin Aug. 18, the course has been rescheduled for Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and Sept. 8. Participants will learn how to safely identify, sustainably harvest and prepare wild flora and fungi. The class involves a large amount of hiking through the woods, so boots or hiking shoes, long pants, water bottles, bug spray and sunscreen are recommended. Each session costs $75 per person, and classes will only be open to six to 12 participants. Online registration and a signed course waiver are required and available on the University Farm's website.
