Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program welcomes new co-chairs

Case Western Reserve University’s College of Arts and Sciences has announced two new co-chairs for the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program: Ananya Dasgupta, assistant professor of history, and Megan Swihart Jewell, senior instructor in the Department of English.

Dasgupta specializes in modern South Asian history, with research interests spanning colonialism, nationalism, religion and modernity, and cultural histories of capitalism. In the classroom, her interests focus on both modern and pre-modern South Asian history, as well as women’s histories in the region.

Jewell is a scholar of 20th and 21st century American and British poetry and a core faculty member in the WGSS program. Her research and teaching interests include feminist activism and literature, body image and gender, and working-class literature.

“In our new role, we are very much looking forward to increasing the visibility of WGSS among our students as well as collaborating with the increasing number of amazing faculty at CWRU who work and teach on issues related to women, gender and sexuality,” Dasgupta and Jewell shared.

Together, they will guide the WGSS program as it continues fostering dialogue, research and teaching on the intersections of gender, sexuality and society.

“We hope that the program continues to grow in its importance as it remains committed to teaching, research and public engagement on women, gender and sexuality studies from inter-disciplinary and global perspectives,” they added.
