Welcome to 2026, our bicentennial year: Jan. 12, 2026

To Our Case Western Reserve University Community:

The campus reopens today to a new semester in a new year, which also marks the arrival of our bicentennial. As I shared in the State of the University, 2026 will be a celebration of our past, present and future as an influential institution of education, research and, importantly, impact.

With this milestone to connect us, I invite you to consider your individual history and path, and how you can be an active participant in the world—as a student, colleague, professional, friend, neighbor and engaged citizen. The respect and humanity we show one another is both a simple and powerful way to be a force for change.

I also want to reiterate that we stand in full support of our international students, faculty, staff and postdocs, particularly in light of the recent tragic actions of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. Our international colleagues and friends continue to be an essential part of the CWRU community. As a reminder: if any outside agency or police department comes to campus inquiring about the immigration status of a CWRU community member, it has always been our policy to direct them to Public Safety or to the Office of General Counsel. Please review this FAQ, subscribe to VISA News and visit the VISA office website for updated information and resources.

As we begin the spring 2026 semester, we invite you to:

  • Join our campus-wide Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation at 12:45 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center on Friday, Jan. 23. Our speaker this year is Anthony Jack, the inaugural faculty director of the Newbury Center and associate professor of higher education at Boston University.
  • Mark your calendars for our Bicentennial Birthday Celebration from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. We will share more details by email and in The Daily in the coming weeks.

Finally, I look forward to celebrating our university together as a community, and I wish you success in 2026.

Sincerely,

Eric W. Kaler
President
