About the Program

Gain a deeper understanding of dentistry with a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. As a student in our AEGD program, you will acquire the didactic knowledge and clinical experience needed to deliver across-the-board oral healthcare and diagnose and treat even the most challenging, complex dental emergencies. Many of our graduates go on to private practice or speciality programs, while others pursue careers in academia.

What to Expect

Case Western Reserve's 12-month program provides extensive training in general dentistry and emphasizes treatment planning, patient management and comprehensive care. This includes providing specialized care to medically and/or immunocompromised patients, as well as patients with disabilities, geriatric patients and underserved segments of the community.

Our AEGD curriculum consists of formal courses, seminars, literature review, and one week of "on call" practice per month—experiences that will enhance your ability to handle dental and medical emergencies encountered in everyday practice. You’ll also be introduced to the basic concepts of hospital dentistry while gaining hands-on experiences that improve your ability to interact, function and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
