Read about some of our past client projects

Conversational AI prototype for field account management

A national distribution and services organization wanted to reduce the administrative burden of post-visit account reporting while improving the completeness and usability of customer relationship data. xLab explored and prototyped a voice-based conversational AI system that could interview account managers after customer visits, structure the information captured, prompt for missing details, and generate standardized account summaries for review. The project produced a functional proof-of-concept, user feedback findings, and recommendations for future CRM integration, pilot deployment, and expanded account-management support.

Smart-home strategy for young family households

A global consumer electronics company wanted to explore how smart-home products and services could better support households with young families across activities such as work, wellness, caregiving, cooking, entertaining, and daily coordination. xLab conducted consumer research with a target demographic, identified unmet needs and opportunity spaces, and developed recommendations for a more unified smart-home experience. The project produced strategic product and service concepts, business model considerations, and illustrative mockups to guide future development.

Customer journey analysis for an on-demand rental experience

A national rental and logistics organization wanted to improve customer satisfaction and ensure that its pickup and return experience consistently reflected its premium service promise. xLab analyzed large-scale customer survey data, modeled drivers of dissatisfaction, conducted sentiment analysis, developed a geospatial dashboard, and complemented the analytics with firsthand service observation and competitive research. The project produced journey insights, operational pain points, and practical recommendations for improving communication, transparency, on-site guidance, documentation, staff support, and digital tools.

Industrial IoT and digital twin concepts for plant operations

A global chemical manufacturer wanted to understand how industrial IoT, digital twin, and extended reality technologies could create value across manufacturing plant roles, from new workers and maintenance teams to supervisors and managers. xLab explored stakeholder needs, identified use cases such as contextual guidance, equipment notes, machine-status visibility, and multi-plant monitoring, and developed an interactive prototype in a simulated plant environment to demonstrate potential applications. The project produced user personas, solution concepts, pilot recommendations, evaluation metrics, and a roadmap for considering broader investment in connected plant technologies.

Visitor engagement and digital strategy for West Side Market

As part of a broader transformation effort, West Side Market sought to better understand current and potential visitors and identify practical ways to strengthen engagement, patronage, and vendor success. xLab expanded on prior customer research, refined visitor segments, and developed personas, journey maps, targeted messaging strategies, and recommendations for selected digital engagement opportunities. The project produced a customer discovery report and strategic framework to support future growth for one of Cleveland’s most important public-serving institutions.

AI-enabled data matching tool for customer insight

A consumer and commercial products company wanted to extract better business insight from fragmented distributor sales and rebate data that was difficult to match to customer records. xLab developed a new AI-enabled similarity-matching approach that dramatically reduced processing time, explored external business directories to identify additional end-user matches, and built a dashboard for running the algorithm, adjusting match thresholds, reviewing statistics, and exporting results. The project produced a working analytics prototype, evidence of improved matching potential, and a roadmap for expanding the system into a more comprehensive customer and market-insight tool.

Adoption framework for pediatric wearable health technologies

A healthcare innovation team wanted to understand what would enable wider adoption of wearable monitoring technologies for a specialized pediatric patient population. xLab interviewed device makers, clinicians, and clinical administrators to examine clinical workflows, implementation barriers, reimbursement considerations, and the conditions under which wearable data could create meaningful care value. The project produced a white paper synthesizing findings and outlining a framework of clinical, operational, and financial factors that could support successful adoption.

Digital and AI maturity assessment for portfolio companies

An investment firm wanted to understand digital and AI readiness across several portfolio companies in manufacturing, advanced materials, and contract research sectors. xLab conducted structured executive and stakeholder interviews to assess current maturity, digital practices, AI literacy, organizational strengths and gaps, and potential use cases. The project produced company-level profiles, prioritized recommendations, and a cross-company analysis identifying shared challenges, scaling opportunities, and possible next steps for digital and AI transformation.

Smart-home digital twin concept for homeowners insurance

A national insurance organization wanted to explore whether smart-home technologies could support a homeowner-facing digital twin that helps assess property risk while offering customers useful insights and incentives. xLab researched the smart-home technology landscape, examined homeowner attitudes toward data sharing and privacy, and developed a limited-scope proof-of-concept interface to illustrate the experience. The project produced strategic recommendations, prototype demonstrations, and an evaluation framework for assessing user appeal, business value, and future pilot potential.

Predictive pricing model for asset utilization

A logistics services company wanted to explore whether dynamic pricing could improve revenue performance and utilization of high-value assets in an on-demand business. xLab analyzed transaction and utilization data alongside external factors such as weather, holidays, events, and competitor pricing, then developed predictive models to forecast utilization and inform pricing decisions. The project produced a proof-of-concept dynamic pricing framework, preliminary optimization process, and roadmap for future backend integration, model tuning, and pilot deployment.

Digital innovation concepts for a cultural institution

A major cultural institution wanted to explore how digital and AI-enabled innovation could strengthen connection with patrons, donors, and the broader community while preserving the personal and live qualities central to its mission. xLab conducted discovery research, examined engagement patterns and comparable digital experiments, and developed an innovation portfolio ranging from near-term opportunities to more ambitious future concepts. The project produced research-backed recommendations, user journeys, mockups, visual storytelling materials, and concept pitches to guide future digital engagement exploration.

AI role-play simulator for customer success training

A business services organization needed a more scalable way to help customer success associates practice complex customer interactions across multiple products, personas, and support scenarios. xLab designed and prototyped a generative AI role-play simulator that allowed trainees to rehearse realistic conversations, receive feedback, and build proficiency before handling live customer issues. The project produced a proof-of-concept system, feature recommendations, and a roadmap for broader training and coaching applications.

Platform strategy for an integrated pet care ecosystem

A leading pet care brand wanted to explore how it could deepen customer relationships by connecting products, personalized recommendations, insurance, health insights, and digital services into a broader pet care platform. xLab conducted market research, surveyed and interviewed pet owners and pet care professionals, and developed personas, service concepts, and a two-tier platform model combining free care tools with premium science-based and insurance-backed services. The project produced a strategic ecosystem concept, business model opportunities, and recommendations for future validation across technology, regulatory, partnership, and customer adoption dimensions.

Opportunity assessment for climate-controlled logistics services

A logistics and infrastructure organization wanted to evaluate the business potential for a climate-controlled warehousing and distribution hub serving industries with temperature- and humidity-sensitive goods. xLab assessed the opportunity through customer discovery, market and competitive research, logistics model exploration, and analysis of potential data-enabled services such as tracking, traceability, reporting, and visibility. The project produced a desirability-feasibility-viability assessment with recommendations to help leadership validate assumptions, prioritize resources, and guide strategic decision-making.
