Jason N. Rucker Receives CWRU License Plate Scholarship ‌

Jason N. Rucker was named this years’ scholarship recipient of the Ohio Collegiate Plate Program sponsored by The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). The CWRU Ohio License Plate Scholarship is awarded to student(s) who demonstrate a strong commitment to classmates, the university, and show initiative in their chosen field of expertise. The scholarship’s monetary value is based off of the number of license plates purchased during the academic year.

Rucker is the youngest of seven children to attend CWRU and is a legacy student. His mother, Alberta D. Rucker (WRC ’77) and father, Michael D. Rucker, set high educational expectations for their family that will again be realized with Jason's graduation this month.

When Jason arrived at CWRU after graduating from University School in 2011, he knew he was interested in economics, but wanted to learn more about the various programs the field of business had to offer. As a student at the Weatherhead School of Management, Jason discovered he really wants to help people in financial services.

“I’m a hard worker, and I often come off quiet and shy, but I like communicating with people of all ages. That’s a big reason why I’m interested in getting into financial services.”

Since 2013, Jason has worked as an office assistant to Sara Fields, director of alumni relations at the School of Dental Medicine. He said he’s had a great experience planning events and engaging CWRU alumni.

After graduation, Jason said he plans to continue his job search in the Cleveland area, and looks forward to networking with alumni and becoming more involved with the African American Alumni Association from which he received the Michael E. Fisher Scholarship award in 2012.

The Alumni Association Receives Prism Award

By Ashley Dyer (MGT'14), Associate Director, Alumni Outreach and Affinity Programs, The Alumni Association

‌ ‌The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) was recognized on April 27 at Lavender Graduation, with the Prism Award. This award is given to campus organizations that work to enhance lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture on campus for students, staff, faculty and alumni.

The award winners are determined by the university’s LGBTQA committee, which the Alumni Association participates. Previous winners include the CWRU Career Center and the Registrar’s office.

The Alumni Association was selected as one of two winners for 2015 for its work with LGBT Center on student programming on events including “Work it Out," where students hear from alumni and professionals on what it’s like to be out in the workplace, and for hosting multiple LGBT networking events throughout the year.

In addition, CWRU Pride, the LGBT alumni network, has created the CWRU Pride LGBT Ohio Leadership Scholarship, a fund that provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate or graduate students who are working to make impactful actions and advance the mission of the LGBT community at Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland community, or nationally through scholarship, research or leadership activities.  For more information on this year’s award winners, visit the LGBT alumni network page.

(The second award winner was the Staff Advisory Council - including the Fringe Benefits Committee, Domestic Partnership Benefits Subcommittee and Faculty Senate Fringe Benefits Committee – for their work in 1990 to pass same sex partner benefits for CWRU employees.)

A new alumni-only application is now available for download on an iPhone or Android. Case Western Reserve University has a new application powered by EverTrue which allows alumni to communicate and network with each other in addition to ensuring the university has their most up-to-date contact information.  We encourage alumni to use this application, which will allow graduates to search the existing‌ CWRU alumni directory and reach out to fellow alums in real-time.
