What is Educational Talent Search?
The Educational Talent Search (ETS) Project of Case Western Reserve University provides free college, career and financial aid information, along with academic tutoring and mentoring, to approximately 500 students each year. ETS identifies and selects students who demonstrate the potential for postsecondary enrollment and provides them with the motivation and support to enroll in a program of postsecondary education (college, university, technical or vocational school) after high school graduation.
How Does ETS Work?
Educational Talent Search encourages and prepares students for postsecondary enrollment by providing assigned students in grades 6-12 with the following services and activities through group workshops and individual appointments held in the East Cleveland and Euclid schools:
- Academic advisement, tutoring, and mentoring
- College, career, and financial aid awareness activities
- College and career field trips
- Individual assistance with college admissions, scholarship applications, and financial aid forms
Who Can Join ETS?
In order to be eligible for selection as ETS participants, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen and current student of an East Cleveland or Euclid city school;
- Be at least 11 years of age and in grades 6-12;
- Qualify as low-income and/or a potential first-generation college graduate (neither parent has received a 4-year degree);
- Demonstrate potential for postsecondary enrollment as defined by:
- Expressing a desire to go to college;
- Maintaining a GPA of 2.75 or higher;
- Initiative /willingness to learn new things;
- Exhibiting good citizenship and leadership skills.
