Case, WRU, and CWRU Varsity Sports and Seasons (1880-2000)
The University Archives' staff has compiled
data about intercollegiate varsity sports at Case Institute of Technology,
Western Reserve University and Case Western Reserve University from sources in the Archives.
Each page describes a single season of a single sport and includes:
•If it could be determined that the opposing team was semi-professional, professional, high school, alumni, or amateur, the game was excluded.
•Missing data are indicated by a question mark.
•Incomplete season records are described as "information unknown from consulted sources."
•Conflicting data are recorded in parentheses.
•If the result of a contest, but not the score, is known, a "W" appears under the winner's name.
•"Forfeit" appears under the name of the team that forfeited the contest.
•When no score was kept, "NTS" (no team scores) appears under CWRU.
•In tournament contests of more than 10 teams, the final ranking of Case, WRU, or CWRU in the tournament is indicated in the score column.
•If there were multiple head coaches for a single season (e.g. WRU football 1930/31), symbols (*, #, @) are used to indicate which games each person coached.
•Neither Case nor WRU had women's varsity teams.
•Years are academic (September-June or August-May)
In the list of sports' seasons that follows, we used the following conventions:
•A year is not on the list means we know that no team was fielded that year.
•A year is on the list but is not a link (no underline) means we know that a team was fielded but we found no information about the contests in the sources we used.
•A year is on the list as a link (underlined) means we know some or all of the season record.
•A question mark is on the list instead of a year means that the sources we consulted contained no information about the sport that year, but we aren't certain that no team was fielded.
