"The scope and impact of the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) has expanded significantly since its creation in 2008. It has evolved from a basic science discovery institute to a multidisciplinary collaborative initiative that touches multiple other institutes and departments within the CWRU milieu. There has been an extensive integration of modern unbiased approaches such as metabolomics, genomics and epigenomics that has informed basic science experiments with additional incorporation of data science approaches to allow integration of experimental data with human observational and epidemiologic data.
The CVRI occupies over 10,000 square feet of laboratory space in the Wolstein Research Building and is home to over 70 faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, students and technicians. The strengths of the CVRI include vascular biology, gene regulation, signal transduction, imaging and environmental exposomics.
Overall, the CVRI has garnered more than 30 R01, 2 R35 grants, 1 Program Project Grant (PPG) multiple training grants and at least 10 K grants from the National Institutes of Health since its inception and contributed to over $60 million dollars in funding since its inception."
