New Research Center Focuses on Blood, Heart, Lung and Immunology
A message for University Hospitals researchers from Daniel I. In conjunction with Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, we are pleased to announce the establishment of a new center for blood, heart, lung, and immunology research. The Blood, Heart, Lung, and Immunology Research Center (BHLI-RC) will build upon the work of the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) founded by Drs. Mukesh Jain and Daniel Simon and recently led by Sanjay Rajagopalan, MD, chief, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Herman K. Hellerstein, MD, Professor of Cardiovascular Research, and chair in cardiovascular research.
The new center will broaden the scope of the CVRI and leverage multiple, pre-existing partnerships and collaborations within and outside the institution to create an integrated, multidisciplinary program focused on providing transformative leadership in research, training, and education of discovery scientists that promotes the mechanistic understanding of, and advances treatments for, blood, heart, lung and immunologic diseases. We have engaged with a broad group of UH and CWRU stakeholders who have provided critical input throughout the visioning process.
Kenneth Remy, MD, Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care and Pediatric Critical Care, departments of medicine and pediatrics at University Hospitals, will serve as the inaugural center director. Yi Fritz will serve as the administrative director for the center.
