Research Information

Research Interests

As co-investigator of the Needs Based Graduate Education Initiative, Dr. Terhaar facilitated conversations with the practice community which helped to clarify needs of prospective students and employers as well as opportunities to improve practice. This work led to design of a blended, cohort-based, executive-format post masters DNP program which has been replicated and sustainable in many programs across the US. As principal investigator on the Stimulating Practice Innovation in Nursing grant, Dr. Terhaar developed a network of resources, programs, and relationships to help newly graduated DNPs across Maryland and the nation to develop collaborations and partnerships and employ new skills in their day-to-day work. This innovation provided targeted post-doctoral support to increase impact. As co-investigator on the Guiding Initiative for Doctoral Education grant, she designed a model program to help prospective students to select the degree and program suited to their professional goals, present themselves as strong applicants, prepare financially and logistically, and negotiate the transition to doctoral study. The program has increased successful applications for doctoral study and increased the success of minority applicants.
