The Behavioral Health Research Group’s (BHRG) mission is to identify barriers to care and develop, test, and implement novel and efficacious treatment approaches to address these barriers and improve patient outcomes in individuals with disorders of the brain and nervous system, including mental health conditions. As part of this mission we aim to reduce health disparities among disadvantaged communities and patient populations.

The BHRG team research endeavors to target traditionally hard-to-treat populations with serious mental illness. This includes individuals who are non-adherent or partially adherent with medications and older adults with mood and psychotic disorders. Representative studies include:

  • Customized Adherence Enhancement (CAE)
  • Individualized Texting for Adherence Building-Cardiovascular (iTAB-CV)
  • Self-management for people with epilepsy and a history of negative health events
    (SMART)
