Why I chose PRIME at CWRU
I chose to do PRIME instead of a master's program because I wanted to finish the pre-reqs for medical school. I am a half career changer and half GPA booster. PRIME appealed to me because it allowed me to do both (change careers and boost GPA) at the same time. I also have a Master's degree in Bioethics, and I didn't feel like I needed another one. PRIME is a non-degree post-bac program, which means that it will boost your undergraduate GPA, which other Master's programs would not be able to do. I was also drawn to the small-group focus and the fact that I could form a meaningful relationship with my advisor who could mentor me through this crazy process that is applying to med school.
How PRIME helped me
The PRIME program helped me most in building a support system. Taking classes, studying for the MCAT, and applying to med school is an extremely stressful process. It can also be hyper-competitive, and can really take a toll on your psyche. I am especially grateful for my cohort and Anthony. Our weekly advising meetings helped me remember the progress I've made and I felt ready to tackle everything that was to come. Moreover, it's just really nice to have other people who believe you and support you on your journey. This sense of camaraderie was very uplifting and inspiring. It's a long journey, and sometimes it's gruesome, but it doesn't have to be lonely.
I've been accepted into medical school, and am slated to start in summer 2020. I honestly cannot wait to start medical school as it feels like I've been on this long upward hike and the destination is finally within my sight! I know medical school won't be easy but I feel ready to tackle it.
