Position Objective
The responsibilities of this position include: planning and executing multiple projects with Dr. Raymond Muzic and his collaborators within the Case Center for Imaging Research, other departments of CWRU, its clinical affiliates, its industrial partners, and other academic institutions. The RA will develop and execute image analysis and reconstruction methods which are focused on the ultimate goal of translation to improve the health and treatment of patients having cancer or other diseases. The qualified candidate will participate in discovery-based development of new imaging methodologies applied to CT and other medical imaging methods as well as the development of radiation treatment plans which improve upon what is currently available. As an RA he/she will lead the effort to submit multiple manuscripts each year as well as provide preliminary data, background and significance and experimental design for grant proposals. As the RAs academic career develops, he/she will take on increasing roles in formulating and submitting research proposals and attend and present at scientific conferences on the new imaging research and treatment methods and other scientific findings.
Essential Functions
- Develop and apply novel analysis methods in support of imaging research programs (40%).
- Design and perform CT data collection and study coordination, in support of ongoing research efforts (10%).
- Lead effort to write manuscripts describing new research efforts (20%).
- Contribute to the development of new grant proposals (10%).
- Present research findings at conferences (5%).
- Train students and staff on CT physics and image reconstruction (5%).
Non Essential Functions
- Assist with other imaging experiments and analyses as needed (10%).
Contacts
Department: Continuous contact with multiple departmental faculty, staff, and students in order to provide information on research efforts.
University: Continuous contact with multiple faculty, staff, and students across the University and affiliates (UHCMC, CCF) to provide information on research efforts as normal for conducting collaborative research.
External: Contact with external industrial partners, e.g., Philips, as part of conducting collaborative research.
Students: Continuous contact with undergraduate and graduate students at CWRU. Occasional contact with students at other Universities in order to further research efforts.

Qualifications
Experience: ≥ 3-5 years of CT imaging experience.
Education/Licensing: PhD in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent.
Required Skills
- Fundamental understanding of CT physics.
- Operational expertise on clinical and/or preclinical CT scanners.
- Expertise in MATLAB programming to support image analysis.
- Track record of manuscript and conference publications.
- Ability to obtain and retain credentials for engaging in human subject research.
Working Conditions
Translational research environment includes interaction with physicians, engineers, physicists, and other medical professionals as well as human research subjects in the context of the clinic. Work safely with radiation and in strong magnetic fields, so individuals with pacemakers, insulin pumps, etc are discouraged from applying. May encourage some travel for conferences and special meetings (~2 weeks / year). May also require occasional overtime as needed for intensive imaging experiments.
