The Multilingual Writing and Speaking Center offers one-on-one learning sessions at all proficiency levels in Chinese and Spanish. Appointments are scheduled through Google Calendar. Each appointment listing will clearly indicate whether the session is held in person at the center or online.
You are welcome to work with the same team member over time or to gain new perspectives by scheduling sessions with different members of our instructional team. When booking your appointment, please include the purpose of your visit so we can prepare to support your learning goals effectively.
Our sessions are designed as collaborative, interactive learning experiences. During your appointment, you and the team member will work together to strengthen your writing and speaking skills. If you have specific questions that would be helpful to address in advance, you are welcome to contact the team member directly.
Please note that while we are happy to support you through discussion and guided feedback, editing student work without the student present is not one of our services. Our goal is to help you interactively develop the skills and strategies needed to communicate more effectively and confidently in your target language.
What to Expect in a Session
During a session, students will actively work with a member of our instructional team to develop your writing and speaking skills in your target language. Sessions may focus on grammar, sentence structure, clarity of expression, idea development, or oral communication, depending on your needs and goals.
Rather than editing your work for you, our instructors and tutors will ask guiding questions, provide targeted feedback, and help you identify patterns in your language use. You are encouraged to bring drafts, notes, assignments, or specific questions, and to be ready to engage in discussion and practice during the session.
Sessions are designed to be supportive, respectful and proficiency-oriented, helping you build confidence and develop strategies you can apply beyond a single assignment.
