CWRU Family Thanksgiving: A celebration of gratitude and connection

University News | November 04, 2025 | Story by: Jocelynn Clemings

As the holiday season approaches, the Case Western Reserve University community is once again invited to join together for the CWRU Family Thanksgiving.

Held on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Thwing Student Center Ballroom, this free event offers students who remain on campus the chance to share a meal in the spirit of gratitude, friendship and connection.

Now a growing tradition, CWRU Family Thanksgiving ensures that no student spends the holiday alone. Guests will enjoy a warm meal prepared by the Jolly Scholar, served by volunteers from across campus.

“CWRU Family Thanksgiving is about community,” said President Eric W. Kaler, who will attend alongside Provost Joy K. Ward and Vice President for Student Affairs Travis T. Apgar. “It’s a chance for all of us to come together, share a meal, and reflect on what we’re thankful for.”

Students—as well as their partners and families—are welcome to attend; simply reserve a ticket for each attendee.

RSVP to attend.

Together, we look forward to celebrating this meaningful tradition and the connections that make CWRU truly feel like family.

Volunteer spots available

To help make this celebration possible, the university is seeking volunteers to welcome guests, serve food and create a festive atmosphere. Friends and family are also encouraged to join in the spirit of service.

There are two volunteer shifts—11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to stay and enjoy the meal when they’re not on shift. The university is in need of 40 volunteers (20 for each shift), each of whom will receive a custom CWRU apron when they arrive. Volunteer spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
