Medicine’s Danny Manor named faculty director for faculty advancement and postdoctoral affairs
Danny Manor has been named faculty director for faculty advancement and postdoctoral affairs at Case Western Reserve University, bringing years of experience as a researcher, mentor and academic leader to the role.
A professor in the School of Medicine’s Departments of Nutrition and Pharmacology, Manor also serves as vice chair of the Department of Nutrition and is a member of the Molecular Oncology Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Throughout his academic career, Manor has found fulfillment by helping students, trainees and peers achieve their goals and remove the obstacles that stand in their way.
“Sharing the lessons I have learned and helping our community thrive provides me with personal satisfaction but also will be a meaningful way to give back to the environment that brought me to where I am today,” Manor said.
That commitment to mentorship and service will guide his work as he helps shape the university's efforts to support faculty and postdocs.
Supporting faculty at every career stage
The Office of Faculty Advancement and Postdoctoral Affairs supports faculty throughout every stage of their academic careers—from postdoctoral scholars and fellows through emeriti affairs. Through mentorship, professional development and tailored resources, the office helps faculty and postdocs grow, advance and thrive. Faculty also establish peer support networks when they participate in one of four different cohort programs. Two of the cohort programs focus on leadership.
As faculty director, Manor will work alongside administrative director William Breeze to lead initiatives that strengthen faculty development, mentoring, career advancement and postdoctoral support across the university.
“Danny and William bring complementary strengths and a shared commitment to supporting our faculty,” said Lee Thompson, deputy provost for academic strategic initiatives, who oversees the office. “Together, they will help strengthen our efforts to onboard new faculty, ensure that faculty successfully navigate the pretenure period and attain promotions, and receive well deserved recognition through national awards.”
A shared vision for faculty success
Looking ahead, Manor said he sees two overarching priorities for the office: enhancing the current academic experience while helping faculty and postdocs prepare for long-term success and fulfillment.
For postdocs, he hopes to foster a supportive environment where they can secure fellowships and grants, address professional challenges and successfully identify and pursue their post-training goals. For faculty, the focus is on providing meaningful support throughout every stage of their careers.
“Our focus should be on helping faculty members manage their research and education needs and preparing them for their next chapter, whether that means career growth, changes in the focus of their research and scholarship, taking on a leadership role, or retirement,” Manor said.
Together, these priorities reflect his commitment to building an environment and culture at CWRU where faculty and postdocs are supported not only in their current roles, but positioned to thrive in what comes next.
Outside of his academic work, Manor enjoys gardening, woodworking and cooking.
