Earlier this year, Nicholas P. Ziats, professor of pathology, anatomy and biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University, received the Society for Biomaterials’ (SFB) 2025 Founders Award at its national meeting in Chicago. The highest honor of the society, this award recognizes long-term, landmark contributions to the discipline of biomaterials and significant service to the society.
Zias, who has been a SFB member since 1988, has contributed more than 30 years of experience in biomaterials-related research, which encompasses areas of cell and blood-material interactions, biocompatibility, tissue engineering, drug delivery and implant retrieval and analysis. He also served as the society’s former president and an editorial board member of Journal of Biomedical Materials Research—the society’s home journal.
Ziats is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering.
