The Chronicle of Higher Education: Walt Hunter, professor of English and senior associate dean for faculty academic affairs, said in-class blue-book exams help students improve their thinking and writing under time constraints. He also said replacing take-home papers with timed writing allows him to assign more reading, giving students more time to engage with works such as Moby-Dick.
