Elijah Hayes, a pharmacology PhD student at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, was named the Merck Innovation Cup winner earlier this year.
About the competition
The Merck Innovation Cup is a prestigious, internationally competitive week-long summer camp held annually at Merck KGaA's headquarters near Frankfurt, Germany, in which a select cohort of top graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from around the world collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative business plans addressing unmet needs across fields such as oncology, drug discovery and synthetic biology. Travel, accommodation and food expenses are covered by Merck KGaA for each participant who is selected through a multi-step and competitive process. At the end of the competition, the winning team is awarded a shared grand prize of around $22,000.
