Please note: The URO receives many more outstanding applications than we can support, so we make it a practice to not accept late applications. We appreciate your understanding.

Notification: On or by April 13, 2026

Application Requirements

A complete submission consists of: 

  1. Application form
  2. Project proposal 
  3. Resume 
  4. Faculty mentor recommendation

Students should only apply to ONE sponsored summer research program; if eligible, they will automatically be considered for the other SSRP awards.

Students cannot save and return to the online application.  It is necessary that students complete all application materials and have them available prior to beginning the online application.

Your proposal and resume must be uploaded as a PDF.

About Submission Confirmation Emails: 

  • The application system will send a confirmation email to the applicant upon submission. 
  • The application system does NOT send confirmation emails to Faculty Mentors upon submission of the faculty recommendation.  
    • However, once per day, the system WILL check for missing Faculty Mentor Recommendations, and the system will email both the mentor and the applicant that the Faculty Mentor Recommendation is missing.

Troubleshooting Advice:

  • Before beginning the application: Log out of your internet applications and open the application in incognito/private browsing mode. Log in with your CWRU network ID and password. This should eliminate many issues.
  • Difficulty accessing form? If you have problems opening the application or uploading documents please try another internet browser or use incognito mode (private browsing) in your current browser. Plugins may interfere with parts of the form functionality. You also need to be logged into your CWRU email and log out of any other programs online.
  • Difficulty attaching your documents? Please note that your browser security setting or add-ons can prevent the form from loading or submitting correctly. If you run into any issues, follow the steps below:
    • Copy the application link: LINK HERE
    • Launch a new browser window with private browsing enabled:
      • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
      • Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
      • Apple Safari: Shift + Command + N
    • Paste the form link into the new browser window and complete your application.

General requirements:

  • Original thought and in your own writing - do not copy work from the mentor’s work
  • Up to 6 pages, inclusive of title page and references
  • Double-spaced
  • Uploaded as a PDF

The proposal format should follow the guidelines for the program you are applying for:

Students are encouraged to visit the CWRU Career Lab for resume support and review.  We encourage students to include their involvement in student groups and leadership activities, in addition to any research and/or work experience.

Resumes should be uploaded as a PDF.

Student instructions: 

  • Applicants cannot access this form.  
  • Provide your faculty mentor with the link to this webpage along with your 7 digit student ID number. 
  • An application is considered complete when both the online application and the Faculty Mentor Recommendation are submitted.  

Instructions for Faculty Recommendations:

  • Both CWRU and external mentors will have access to the form.
  • Faculty mentors can submit their recommendation before their mentees submit their applications, however, if they do, mentors will need to manually enter the student's 7 digit student ID number and first and last name.  
  • Mentors who have difficulty accessing the form may email ugresearch@case.edu.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be reviewed to confirm that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. Application reviewers will evaluate application files and identify recipients based on the clarity, strength and value of the proposal, the feasibility of the project, and the overall support of the faculty mentor.
