The FEDERATION OF ITALIAN-AMERICAN SOCIETIES OF NORTHERN OHIO is a service organization whose mission is to coordinate the work of local Italian societies, award scholarships, and to work on behalf of the area's Italian community. The federation had its roots in the Columbus Day Parade Committee, established in 1951. It formally incorporated in 1963. Since 1968 the federation has sponsored the annual Italian Day celebration and other events to raise funds for charities and scholarships. The first scholarships were awarded at the 1960 Columbus Day Banquet. By 1994 $12,000 was given in the form of general scholarships and grants annually. In 1995 the federation had 30 member organizations. Angela DiFranco Talbort has served as president since 1990.
