KOREAN-AMERICAN ASSN. OF GREATER CLEVELAND

The KOREAN-AMERICAN ASSN. OF GREATER CLEVELAND, a cultural association organized in 1966, serves the Korean-American community in the northeastern Ohio region (see IMMIGRATION AND MIGRATION). It sponsors Korean Day Festivals to celebrate and publicize Korean culture. It also commemorates important events in Korean history with annual observances, such as the celebration of Korean Independence (March) and the establishment of the Republic celebration (August). In addition to such community events, the Korean Assn. provides social-welfare services for members. The association began publishing a bi-monthly newsletter, Sosikji, in Jan. 1995. Membership in the association had grown to about 1,050 households by 1995. Dr. Sakoo Lee served as president.
