TOTH, JOHN, JR. (7 Nov. 1897-8 Sept. 1960) was, for more than 23 years, a business representative of the International Association of Machinists.
He held positions at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. and the WARNER AND SWASEY CO., where he learned the machinist trade. As a member of the International Association of Machinists, he served on the policy committee of the national organization, was second in command in the local unit, District 54 and served as secretary-treasurer of the Ohio State Council of Machinists. During WORLD WAR II, he served on the Labor Relations and Rationing Boards in Cleveland.
Toth was born in the village of St. Jakab in Abaj County, Hungary to John Toth, Sr. and Katalin Abosi. He immigrated to the United States on 1 May 1912, settled in Cleveland and acquired his citizenship on 1 Dec. 1921. He attended Dubuque College in Iowa, and eventually returned to Cleveland where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering at FENN COLLEGE.
He married Julia Galambos on 14 Sept. 1919, and the couple had four daughters: Edith, Dorothy, Eleanor, and Charlotte.
Toth was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Cleveland. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Boston Hts., Ohio.
