Teaching Information

Teaching Interests

My teaching philosophy emphasizes connecting fundamental polymer physics and statistical mechanics to modern engineering applications. I teach Physical Chemistry of Polymers (EMAC 402), where students develop a molecular-level understanding of polymer structure, dynamics, thermodynamics, and rheology. I have also launched a new elective, Computational and Numerical Methods in Soft Matter Systems (EMAC 473), which introduces students to scientific computing, numerical modeling, simulation techniques, and data-driven approaches for complex soft materials. Through these courses, students learn how fundamental theory, computation, and experiments work together to solve problems in materials science, biotechnology, energy, and manufacturing.

Research Information

Research Interests

Our research seeks to understand how microscopic interactions give rise to emergent structure, dynamics, and flow behavior in complex fluids and soft materials. We combine statistical mechanics, continuum modeling, particle-based simulations, machine learning, and data-driven approaches to study polymers, colloidal suspensions, active matter, granular materials, and biological soft matter. Our goal is to develop predictive frameworks that accelerate materials discovery, optimize processing, and enable next-generation functional materials.

Research Projects

  • Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics of soft matter from polymers to suspensions to powers & pastes.
  • Machine learning and AI for complex-fluid characterization and materials discovery.
  • Rheology, microstructure evolution, and flow instabilities in polymeric and colloidal systems.
  • Simulation and theoretical modeling of self-assembly and emergent collective behavior.
  • Data-driven constitutive modeling for soft materials processing and manufacturing.
  • Physics-informed computational approaches for multiscale materials design.
