Graduating Class Averages
In recent years, the gap between our students' Step 1 scores and the national average has been widening.
Students at CWRU, on average, perform consistently higher on the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) when compared to the national average consisting of all US and Canadian medical schools.
USMLE Step 1
The mean performance for CWRU students in 2018 was 237 (19 SD) compared to the national mean of 230 (19 SD). The CWRU pass rate was 98% vs. 96% nationally.
USMLE Step 2
USMLE Step 2 consists of two parts Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS), and the aggregated 3 year mean CWRU score for Step 2 CK compared to examinees at US and Canadian medical schools is 245 vs. 241, with a pass rate of 97% vs. 96%.
Residency Match Results: Historically, CWRU students do extremely well in the Match. The national board no longer officially tracks first choice matches versus other choices. However, our students have consistently been thrilled with their Match results and train in outstanding residency programs locally and across the country.
