Every year Ohio Physician Assistant programs join together to fundraise for a local Ohio organization. While 2020’s events were ultimately canceled due to COVID-19, we were able to have virtual events this year! The reigning fundraising champion from 2019, Kettering College, selected this year’s recipients of fundraising to be Reach Out of Montgomery County. This organization’s mission is to provide access to health care services (clinic/pharmacy) for the underserved/uninsured population in Montgomery County, without restraints, utilizing the professional skills of volunteer physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. Over these past few months, student leaders across the twelve Ohio PA programs joined efforts with OAPA in creating events, t-shirt designs and sales, webinars, and outreach for fundraising efforts.
Fundraising with T-shirts:
One fundraising source involved each PA program participating in T-shirt sales! Every program was represented by a different T-shirt color. All programs were able to raise funds that contributed to the PAO’s overall goal of fundraising for Reach Out of Montgomery County.
Fundraising through GoFundMe:
Through the 12 Ohio PA schools, we also raised funds for Reach Out of Montgomery County with GoFundMe! The link was shared throughout programs, families, and other organizations to help boost the awareness of our efforts.
PA Olympic games:
This past weekend concluded the 2021 Virtual PA Olympics hosted by OAPA. Despite the PAO being held virtually, all programs were enthusiastic throughout this experience and came together to have fun while raising funds! Each school had students participate in minute-to-win-it medical-themed games against one another through Zoom with the winners being awarded points for each game. Students from CWRU’s PA program participated and received third place amongst the games! We would like to congratulate The University of Mount Union as they were crowned as overall Champion! They came together to raise the 3rd most for fundraising and won the title of PA Olympics champions 2021.
With the fundraising efforts of T-shirt sales, GoFundMe, and the PA Olympic games, every Ohio PA Program came together and raised over $5000 for Reach Out of Montgomery County. Thank you to everyone that made a donation, attended the virtual Olympics, or purchased a shirt for the fundraiser!
