The People We Serve

CS

PA students in their didactic year, led by CWRU Assistant Professor Jereme Mellenthin, work with our community partners to serve diverse populations as part of their curriculum. During their time in the PA program, students are required to complete service in order to engage with and serve our community. This service totals to 25 hours of service during a student's time in the program and is connected to a variety of Cleveland organizations, including our affiliates. Students perform health screenings, provide health education for adults, perform literacy screenings for community members, teach students about nutrition and oral health, and screen students for lead and vision problems. For example, by building relationships with individuals in homeless shelters students practice compassion and empathy while learning what drives decisions around health and healthcare in marginalized populations.  Students also see the impact many social determinants of health have on health, well-being, and quality of life for children in Cleveland Metropolitan School District. CWRU PA students are proud to get to know and serve the surrounding Cleveland community.  We are making an impact at the following locations:

Coit Road Farmers' Market
Salvation Army-East Cleveland
Our Savior Food Bank
Salvation Army - Zelma George Family Shelter
St. Herman House Shelter
2100 Lakeside Men’s Shelter
Seeds of Literacy at MetroHealth Buckeye Health Center
Various Cleveland Municipal School District schools
Bright Beginnings/Cuyahoga County Public Libraries
